David James Baker is digital media producer, filmmaker, painter, teacher and teacher. He is the creator of Portraits of the Southwest, a documentary series produced for public television for southern New Mexico and West Texas. Portraits of the Southwest profiles people and their environments in the American Southwest whose life stories, experiences and environments might otherwise exist below the radar of mass media.
David's first independent narrative work is the documentary film and exhibition of paintings: In Their Own Words - A Return to Vietnam. An ethereal story of American Veterans their family members and Vietnamese soldiers whose hearts and minds are forever connected to battlefields of loss and valor in southeast Asia.
David serves on the faculty of Western New Mexico University where he is a Visiting Professor of Media Arts & Applied Technology. Prior to forming The Skyhorse Company, as a creative media design and production firm, David published an arts publication in northern New Mexico. Previously he worked in a variety of media technology and production groups at UCLA, for Walt Disney Company, and at Colorado Public Radio.
David holds a B.A. from the University of Denver, an M.A. from New Mexico Highlands University, and an M.F.A from New Mexico State University.
